Son Heung-min Scores Twice as Spurs Win 4-3

Son Heung-min scored twice as Tottenham Hotspur narrowly defeated a team of South Korea’s top league players 4-3 in a friendly match. Dejan Kulusevski initially put Spurs ahead in the 29th minute. Son Heung-min, making his return to Seoul, added to the lead with a stunning goal in the 38th minute and another from a Kulusevski assist, giving Tottenham a 3-0 advantage at halftime.

However, Team K League mounted a comeback in the second half, scoring twice after making a full team substitution during the break. Stanislav Iljutcenko netted both goals within five minutes of the restart, closing the gap to 3-2. Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou responded by making adjustments and Will Lankshear extended the lead with a volley from a Timo Werner cross.

Oberdan scored for the hosts with nine minutes remaining but Tottenham held on for the win. James Maddison also hit the post during injury time. Tottenham’s next pre-season match is against Bayern Munich on Saturday at 12:00 BST in Seoul. In other pre-season action, Newcastle United defeated Urawa Red Diamonds 4-1 in Japan. Alexander Isak scored his third goal of pre-season to give Newcastle an early lead but Urawa equalized in the 23rd minute with a backheel from Rio Nitta.

Jacob Murphy restored Newcastle’s lead just before halftime and added another goal shortly after the restart. A deflected effort from Lewis Hall completed the scoring. Newcastle will face Yokohama F. Marinos on Saturday at 13:00 BST. Southampton lost 2-0 to Championship newcomers Oxford at the Kassam Stadium with goals from Mark Harris and Ruben Rodrigues. The defeat marked Southampton’s first loss of pre-season. They will next visit Millwall on Saturday.
