Tom Lawrence delivered a stunning goal to secure Rangers’ 1-0 win over Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership. Fresh off their Europa League triumph over Malmo, Rangers manager Philippe Clement made four changes to his starting lineup which disrupted their rhythm in the first half. Tom Lawrence curled in a brilliant shot from the left flank to find the top corner after VAR overturned an offside call.
Hibernian had a prime opportunity to equalize before halftime when VAR flagged a handball by John Souttar. Mykola Kuharevich stepped up for the penalty but Jack Butland easily saved his weak shot. Both teams created chances in the second half but Cyriel Dessers saw his close-range header saved for Rangers while Hibs’ Robin Propper and debutant Dwight Gayle failed to hit the target.
Rangers struggled to generate clear opportunities, revealing their lack of attacking sharpness while Hibs showed more organization but couldn’t convert their chances. Clement voiced his frustration with his team’s lack of energy, attributing it to fatigue from their midweek European fixture. Hibs head coach David Gray praised his team’s effort, believing they deserved at least a point.
Despite signs of progress, Hibs will regret their missed opportunities. Rangers remain third in the league, five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen while Hibernian stay in ninth. Rangers now shift focus to their Europa League clash against Lyon on Thursday.
