Tottenham Hotspur Extend Werner Loan, Lower Purchase Option

Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to extend Timo Werner’s loan from RB Leipzig until the end of next season. The German forward, who initially joined Spurs on a temporary basis in January, made 14 appearances across all competitions and netted twice before a hamstring injury sidelined him for the final five Premier League matches of the campaign.

Under the initial loan arrangement, Tottenham had the option to purchase Werner, now 28, for £15 million this summer. However, the new agreement has revised this clause, offering Spurs the option to buy him for £8.5 million instead.

Werner’s contributions last season were valuable for Tottenham, providing manager Ange Postecoglou with additional depth in the attacking lineup. Despite his injury, his presence bolstered the squad as they secured a fifth-place finish in the Premier League, earning a spot in the Europa League for the upcoming season.

Internationally, Werner has an impressive record with 24 goals in 57 caps for Germany, although his last appearance for the national team was in a friendly loss to Belgium in March 2023. Before his stint at Tottenham and his return to RB Leipzig in 2022, Werner had a notable two-year spell at Chelsea.

During his time with the Blues, he scored 23 goals in 89 appearances and helped the team win several major trophies including the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
