UEFA Reopens Bids for 2027 Champions League Final

UEFA has reopened the bidding process for stadiums to host the 2027 Champions League final after removing the event from Milan’s San Siro. Milan officials failed to guarantee that planned redevelopment work wouldn’t interfere with the event leading UEFA to strip San Siro of its hosting rights. AC Milan and Inter Milan are now exploring the idea of building a new stadium in the San Siro area.

UEFA expects to announce the new host venue for the 2027 final in May or June 2025. During a meeting of its Executive Committee, UEFA also agreed on changes to solidarity funding for European leagues. The Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, Serie A and Bundesliga known as the ‘big five’ leagues have agreed to cap their solidarity payments at 10 million euros per season until the end of the 2026-27 cycle.

The cap increases by 1.5 million euros compared to the previous cycle. Meanwhile, UEFA will significantly raise the total funds for clubs not involved in European competitions to 308 million euros up from 177.2 million euros in the last cycle. These funds aim to support competitive balance within top divisions where some clubs gain additional revenue from participating in European competitions.

Additionally, UEFA approved a women’s football strategy for the 2024 to 2030 period. Although specific details have not been released, the strategy will outline the future direction for developing women’s football across Europe.
