Girona concluded a remarkable season with a resounding 7-0 triumph over relegated Granada, as Artem Dovbyk solidified his position as La Liga’s leading scorer. The Ukrainian forward netted a hat-trick as Girona secured their largest-ever victory. Goals from Eric Garcia and Viktor Tsygankov, followed by Dovbyk’s first-half penalty, set the stage. Tsygankov added another early in the second half, before Dovbyk struck twice, flanking Cristhian Stuani’s goal. Dovbyk’s tally now stands at 24 goals in La Liga this season, edging him one ahead of Alexander Sorloth.

Sorloth will have an opportunity to reclaim the top spot for the Pichichi Trophy when his Villarreal side faces Osasuna on Saturday. Girona, having clinched third place, look ahead to European football for the first time next season, securing a spot in the Champions League. Reflecting on the achievement, Girona boss Michel expressed his satisfaction, hailing the season as historic. He stressed the players’ remarkable effort, aiming to make fans proud and support Dovbyk’s top scorer bid.

Additionally, it’s noteworthy that the ownership structure of Girona involves significant involvement from Manchester City’s parent company, City Football Group. With a substantial 47% ownership stake, City Football Group holds a prominent position within Girona’s ownership framework. This partnership highlights close collaboration, sharing resources and expertise between the two clubs.
