Harry Kane celebrated a record-breaking night for Bayern Munich in their 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb. Bayern Munich became the first team to score nine goals in a Champions League match.

Kane’s performance set several milestones:

– He became the top English scorer in Champions League history with 33 goals, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s previous record of 30.
– Kane became the first English player to score four goals in a single Champions League game and to score a hat-trick for a non-English team in the competition.
– He achieved the first-ever hat-trick of penalties in a Champions League match. Additionally, he scored his 50th, 51st, 52nd and 53rd goals for Bayern Munich in just his 50th appearance for the club.
– This match marked the 24th hat-trick of his career and the fifth time he has scored consecutive trebles or quadruples.

Kane missed a late chance to score five goals which would have matched Erling Haaland’s record for the most goals in a Champions League game. Reflecting on his performance, Kane expressed his joy at taking the match ball home as a keepsake for his son Louis. Former England defender Stephen Warnock praised Kane’s professionalism and intelligence. Despite facing criticism and calls for his removal during England’s Euro 2024 run, Kane has continued to excel.

Warnock believes that Kane’s performance at Bayern Munich and his scoring ability will further bolster his legacy. However, despite his individual achievements, Kane has yet to secure a major trophy. Bayern Munich’s failure to secure the Bundesliga title last season and Kane’s past near misses in finals with England and Tottenham remain significant.

However, Bayern’s strong start this season under new manager Vincent Kompany includes scoring 20 goals in their first four games. This performance suggests a promising future for the club. The Champions League final at Bayern’s Allianz Arena fuels hopes for a trophy-winning season. Kane’s record-breaking performance grabbed most of the headlines.

Despite Michael Olise scoring twice for Dinamo Zagreb in his European debut, Harry Kane stayed the main focus.
