Harry Wilson inspired a much-changed Wales side to a 1-0 Nations League victory over Montenegro extending Craig Bellamy’s unbeaten start as head coach to four games. Wilson’s first-half penalty, following a foul by Vladimir Jovovic gave Wales the lead after a dominant opening period. The Fulham playmaker was instrumental throughout, creating several chances including opportunities for Wes Burns and Liam Cullen.

Despite Wales’ control in the first half, Montenegro improved after the break with substitute Andrija Radulovic nearly equalizing with a powerful shot that rattled the crossbar. However, Wales held firm to secure their second win in four matches under Bellamy. Bellamy, who took over from Robert Page in July has introduced a more ambitious, creative style of play with Wales pressing harder and building attacks from across the pitch.

Although the team has shown promise, second-half lapses have been a concern, as all three goals conceded under Bellamy have come after halftime. Wales successfully avoided a repeat of Friday’s 2-2 draw against Iceland where they had let a two-goal lead slip away. Joe Allen came back from international retirement to earn his 75th cap, bringing important stability to Wales. He helped the team stay strong as Montenegro pushed for a late equalizer.

Despite late pressure from Stevan Jovetic and Nikola Krstovic, Wales held on for the win. Wales now sit two points behind Group B4 leaders Turkey, who beat Iceland 4-2. Under Bellamy’s leadership, Harry Wilson and his teammates will face Turkey and Iceland in their final group matches in November with an opportunity to challenge for the top spot.
