Johanna Rytting Kaneryd shone for Chelsea, scoring two sensational goals as the team continued its perfect start to the Women’s Super League (WSL) season. With Lauren James sidelined due to injury, Kaneryd electrified the match by netting an outrageous jumping volley in the 70th minute to extend Chelsea’s lead to 3-1. She capped off her impressive performance with a dazzling run and a powerful strike into the roof of the net, sealing a dominant 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

The first half featured action-packed moments with Chelsea initially taking the lead through Maika Hamano, who scored on her first WSL start after Kaneryd delivered a clever cutback. Controversy struck when Spurs equalized; the assistant referee penalized Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton for a mishit diagonal pass that slipped past her. Hampton disputed the assistant referee’s call which resulted in a yellow card for her protests.

Chelsea quickly regained the advantage just before halftime when Clare Hunt’s attempted clearance went awry, slipping past goalkeeper Becky Spencer. In the second half, Chelsea received a penalty after Clare Hunt handled the ball. Although Guro Reiten’s spot-kick struck the post, Sandy Baltimore capitalized on the rebound to score. Spurs scored a late consolation goal when Eveliina Summanen curled in a free-kick.

However, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd’s final goal secured Chelsea’s comfortable victory. Chelsea’s next challenge comes after the international break against winless Everton and Kaneryd will look to build on her impressive tally of three WSL goals and two assists. Manager Sonia Bompastor praised Kaneryd’s high performance and confidence, emphasizing her role as a crucial asset to the team.
