Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) the defending champions along with Kuching City and Perak secured their spots in the Malaysia Cup quarterfinals with dominant victories in the round-of-16 on Nov 30. At Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, JDT dominated KL Rovers with a 6-0 thrashing in the second leg, sealing a 9-0 aggregate win. The match was one-sided from the start, as KL Rovers’ defender Raffi Nagoorgani scored an own goal in the 13th minute, giving JDT an early lead.

La’Vere Corbin-Ong extended the lead in the 33rd minute and Jese Rodriguez added a third goal in the 45+3 minute. In the second half, young Alif Mutalib scored his first senior goal in the 75th minute. Bergson Da Silva (82nd) and Mohamadou Sumareh (88th) then completed the 6-0 rout, ensuring JDT’s progress to the quarterfinals. In Sarawak, Kuching City triumphed 2-0 over Penang in the second leg, clinching a 3-0 aggregate win.

Despite Penang being reduced to 10 men in the 40th minute, they managed to hold off Kuching City until the 68th minute when Ivorian forward Tchetche Kipre broke the deadlock. Then, in the 79th minute, Ramadhan Saifullah Usman sealed the victory with a strike. With this win, Kuching City will now face East Malaysian rivals Sabah in the highly anticipated quarter-final. The first leg will take place on Dec 13, with the return leg scheduled for Dec 22.

Meanwhile, Perak completed a commanding 6-0 aggregate victory over Kelantan Darul Naim following a 3-0 win in the second leg. The Bos Gaurus took the lead early with Clayton Da Silva scoring in the 9th minute. Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor doubled their advantage in the 36th minute. In the 60th minute, Ariff Ar-Rasyid Ariffin added a third goal securing the win for Perak. Perak will now face the winner of the Selangor vs Sri Pahang tie in the next round.
