Jonas Eidevall has become the new head coach of NWSL side San Diego Wave, signing a three-year contract. The 41-year-old Swedish coach replaces Casey Stoney, whom the club dismissed in June. Interim managers Paul Buckle and Landan Donovan led the team after Stoney’s departure. Eidevall’s appointment follows the club’s acquisition by the Levine Leichtman family in October. Eidevall, who resigned as Arsenal’s head coach in October, expressed excitement about leading San Diego Wave.

“I am honored and proud to be named the head coach of San Diego Wave,” he said. He emphasized the club’s clear vision for success, both on and off the pitch, and the passionate fan base in the city. Jonas Eidevall showed eagerness to contribute to building a winning legacy and work with the players, staff and supporters to achieve great things. Before joining San Diego Wave, Eidevall had a successful tenure at Arsenal.

He guided the club to three consecutive top-three finishes in the Women’s Super League (WSL) and secured two Women’s League Cup titles. However, he resigned after a difficult start to the 2024-25 WSL season with Arsenal sitting sixth in the league after one win in their first four games. San Diego Wave aims to build on its potential with Eidevall’s new leadership, bringing experience from both domestic and international football. The club’s new ownership group and passionate supporters remain hopeful for a successful future under his guidance.
