Jonas Eidevall Declares Season “Starts Now”

Jonas Eidevall declared that Arsenal’s season “starts now” after the team qualified for the Women’s Champions League group stage by defeating BK Hacken. After trailing 1-0 from the first leg in Sweden, Arsenal dominated the return match at Meadow Park scoring four goals to secure a comfortable 4-1 victory on aggregate. England international Beth Mead scored a stunning goal to highlight the match.

Substitute Frida Maanum then added a late strike to cap off the evening. Arsenal took control early with midfielder Lia Walti and summer signing Mariona Caldentey finding the net in the first half. Walti returning to the starting lineup restored stability in midfield and her first-time shot from outside the box opened the scoring. Caldentey’s goal came from a scrappy finish that benefitted from a deflection, putting Arsenal firmly in charge.

Mead extended the lead with a spectacular volley after a clever setup from Katie McCabe and Maanum sealed the win with a fourth goal. Jonas Eidevall expressed satisfaction with the team’s growth and emphasized the importance of maximizing their potential in all four competitions this season. Despite some chances created by BK Hacken late in the game, Arsenal maintained control and showcased their superiority throughout the match.

The victory also marked a significant moment for English football, as Arsenal joined rivals Chelsea and Manchester City in the group stage for the first time under this format, highlighting the strength of the Women’s Super League. Arsenal, who reached the European semi-finals last season will look to capitalize on this momentum and deliver silverware as pressure mounts on Eidevall to achieve success in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Manchester City also enjoyed a successful outing easily progressing with an 8-0 aggregate win over Paris FC.
