Jürgen Klopp has defended his decision to take on the role of head of global soccer at Red Bull, emphasizing the challenges of making a choice that satisfies everyone. The former Liverpool manager, who departed the club at the end of last season faced criticism particularly from Borussia Dortmund fans due to Red Bull’s controversial history in German football.

Red Bull entered the football scene in 2009 when it transformed fifth-division SSV Markranstadt into RB Leipzig. Although not technically owning RB Leipzig, the company finances the team which has faced backlash as one of Germany’s most disliked clubs enduring protests from opposing fans. In a podcast with former professional player Toni Kroos, Klopp stated, “You cannot make your decision depending on what reactions there will be.”

He expressed his love for all his former clubs but recognized that it was impossible to please everyone. At 57, he plans to continue working and saw Red Bull as an appealing opportunity, commencing in January. Klopp noted that he never viewed Red Bull’s football involvement as critically as some fans do and emphasized that criticism from German football fans held little relevance for him.

He also pointed out that had he accepted a position with Bayern Munich it would have sparked outrage among Dortmund supporters, underlining the impossibility of satisfying all factions. Klopp reiterated that he does not envision a return to coaching even at the national level with Germany, stating, “I don’t want to be a coach anymore.”

Ultimately, Jürgen Klopp’s focus remains on his new role with Red Bull where he hopes to contribute positively to the organization.
