Kylian Mbappe's Euro 2024 Fate Uncertain After Nose Injury

Kylian Mbappe’s participation in France’s upcoming match against the Netherlands remains uncertain following his nose injury during their Euro 2024 opener. The 25-year-old striker sustained the injury after colliding with Austria’s Kevin Danso, forcing him off the field in Monday’s 1-0 victory. Medical scans at a hospital in Dusseldorf promptly confirmed the nose break before he rejoined the national team.

The French Football Federation (FFF) announced that Mbappe does not require surgery and will wear a protective mask. They expect to provide an update on his condition on Wednesday. Despite his injury, Mbappe played a crucial role in France’s winning goal against Austria, as his cross led to an own goal by defender Max Wober.

France manager Didier Deschamps expressed concern for Kylian Mbappe’s well-being in a post-match conference, noting that the star player was not in good spirits. Mbappe has scored 47 goals in 80 appearances for France but has not scored in a European Championship. After the tournament concludes, he is set to join Real Madrid.

Former Spain international Cesc Fabregas, who has experience playing with a similar injury, believes wearing a protective mask upon his return will not adversely affect Mbappe’s performance. Fabregas is confident that the mask might be uncomfortable initially but should not hinder Mbappe’s ability to play effectively.
