LA Galaxy Triumph in Historic 2-1 MLS Cup Final

LA Galaxy secured a record sixth MLS Cup title with a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls at Dignity Health Sports Park, delighting the home crowd. The MLS Cup finale featuring champions from the Eastern and Western Conference finals, marked the first-ever clash between teams from the U.S.’s two largest cities. The Red Bulls, the lowest seed to ever reach the final after finishing seventh in the Eastern Conference faced a dominant LA Galaxy side early in the game.

Galaxy took the lead just nine minutes in when Joseph Paintsil’s shot slipped under goalkeeper Carlos Coronel. Dejan Joveljic doubled the lead shortly after, showcasing a brilliant solo effort with a composed outside-foot finish. Both players celebrated by holding up a shirt honoring teammate Riqui Puig, the former Barcelona midfielder who suffered an ACL injury in the Western Conference Final.

Despite Galaxy’s strong start, Red Bulls responded through Sean Nealis in the 28th minute with the defender skillfully chesting down a loose ball from a corner and volleying it in to cut the deficit. Galaxy almost extended their lead when Nealis nearly scored an own goal, heading a free-kick against the crossbar. The second half saw chances on both ends.

LA Galaxy’s Miki Yamane struck the outside of the post while Red Bulls’ Emil Forsberg hit the upright with a curling effort. However, Galaxy’s solid defense ensured the scoreline remained unchanged securing their first MLS Cup since 2014. The Red Bulls, appearing in their second MLS Cup final, fell short again and remain without a title in their history. Galaxy’s triumph underscores their dominance in MLS history with six titles extending their record as the league’s most successful team.
