Barcelona kicked off their La Liga campaign with a 2-1 victory over Valencia under new manager Hansi Flick. The match saw Barcelona come from behind after Valencia’s Hugo Duro tapped in a cross from Diego Lopez, putting the hosts ahead just before halftime. The first half was uneventful until Duro’s goal in the 44th minute which sparked a more dynamic game.

Duro nearly doubled Valencia’s lead, but Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski equalized shortly after with a well-placed finish from Lamine Yamal’s drilled pass. Valencia had looked strong before the break but Barcelona asserted their dominance after halftime. Lewandowski scored again in the 49th minute, converting a penalty awarded after Raphinha was fouled in the box.

Yamal, at just 17, was a constant threat with his impressive dribbling on the wings, making life difficult for Valencia’s defense. Despite Valencia’s attempts to exploit Barcelona’s occasional midfield sloppiness and their own counter-attacking efforts, Barcelona maintained control and successfully managed the game to secure the win. Flick’s side demonstrated their superior quality ensuring they left with all three points.

Barcelona, who finished as runners-up last season, ten points behind champions Real Madrid will look to build on this performance as they face Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, 24 August (18:00 BST) in their next La Liga fixture.
