Robert Lewandowski Strikes Twice as Barcelona Thrashes Sevilla

Robert Lewandowski continued his stellar form by scoring two goals as Barcelona thrashed Sevilla, reclaiming their three-point lead in La Liga. The 36-year-old striker now boasts 14 goals in 12 games across all competitions and has netted 10 in his last six matches. Barcelona’s dominant performance came in response to Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday.

The match marked Barcelona’s third consecutive game leading 3-0 at halftime. Lewandowski opened the scoring with a penalty in the 24th minute after Raphinha was brought down by Peque Fernandez. Just four minutes later, Pedri doubled the lead with a stunning strike from the edge of the box. Lewandowski then added his second goal finishing off a move set up by Raphinha after being denied moments earlier.

With these goals, Robert Lewandowski became joint-third on the all-time scoring list for Europe’s top five leagues, matching Jimmy Greaves with 366 goals trailing only Cristiano Ronaldo (495) and Lionel Messi (496). Late in the match, Pablo Torre scored twice for Barcelona, sandwiching a consolation goal from Stanis Idumbo, who found the net with Sevilla’s only shot on target.

Torre’s first goal came from a deflected shot and he added a second with a direct free-kick. The home crowd at the Olympic Stadium, Barcelona’s temporary venue during the Nou Camp renovation also celebrated the return of Gavi, who received a warm welcome after recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Barcelona’s victory followed their first loss of the season against Osasuna and they now prepare for two crucial matches next week: a Champions League clash with Bayern Munich and a La Liga showdown against title rivals Real Madrid.
