Leicester City Appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy as Manager

Leicester City have appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager replacing Steve Cooper, who was sacked after just 12 Premier League matches. The Dutchman, 48 has signed a contract through June 2027. Van Nistelrooy arrives after leaving his interim role at Manchester United following the appointment of Ruben Amorim. Prior to that, his most recent managerial position was at PSV Eindhoven where he led the club to second place in the Eredivisie during the 2022-23 season before departing due to a lack of support within the club.

Van Nistelrooy expressed excitement about joining Leicester, praising the club’s reputation and history and is eager to begin working with the team. Leicester, currently 16th in the Premier League are just one point above the relegation zone. Van Nistelrooy will be watching from the sidelines for their upcoming match at Brentford with assistant coach Ben Dawson taking charge for that fixture. Van Nistelrooy’s first match in charge will be against West Ham on December 3.

During his short time at Manchester United, Van Nistelrooy oversaw three wins and one draw including two victories over Leicester City in the Premier League and Carabao Cup. His only other experience in senior management was at PSV Eindhoven where his tenure ended abruptly due to disagreements with the club’s direction.

Leicester City’s chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha is optimistic about Van Nistelrooy’s appointment, highlighting his experience, knowledge and winning mentality. The club will support him in his efforts to bring success to the team and its supporters as Leicester look to turn their season around under their new manager.
