Gianluigi Donnarumma Injured as PSG Beat Monaco 4-2

Gianluigi Donnarumma, Paris Saint-Germain’s goalkeeper had to leave the field in the 22nd minute of their 4-2 victory over Monaco in Ligue 1 after suffering a serious facial injury. Monaco defender Wilfried Singo struck Donnarumma in the face with his boot, leaving the goalkeeper with significant facial wounds that required around 10 staples to close. Although the challenge was reckless, Singo did not intend to harm Donnarumma and the referee did not penalize him for the incident.

PSG manager Luis Enrique shared his thoughts on the refereeing, saying, “I can’t do anything, I couldn’t see the action, but when you see an action like that, it’s always difficult. The players don’t intend to hurt. It’s difficult to referee this kind of match.” Following the injury, PSG replaced Donnarumma with Matvey Safonov while the score stood at 0-0. Despite the early setback, PSG took the lead through Desire Doue but Monaco fought back to go 2-1 up, thanks to a penalty from Eliesse Ben Seghir and a strike by Breel Embolo.

However, PSG responded strongly in the second half with Ousmane Dembélé scoring twice, followed by a header from Gonçalo Ramos to make it 4-2. PSG extended their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to 10 points heading into the Christmas break with a commanding advantage. While the victory was crucial for PSG, Gianluigi Donnarumma’s injury raised concerns about his recovery. The match proved tense with both teams showing attacking intent and Monaco putting up a strong fight before PSG ultimately triumphed due to their quality.
