Nuno Mendes Faces Racism Post-Match

Nuno Mendes received strong support from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after facing online racist abuse following the club’s 3-1 victory over Brest in Ligue 1 on Saturday. The 22-year-old Portuguese left-back received derogatory comments on Instagram, which he subsequently shared on his story. PSG has condemned the racial insults and reaffirmed its commitment to combating discrimination.

In the match, Mendes conceded a penalty in the first half after fouling Ludovic Ajorque which Romain del Castillo converted to give Brest the lead. However, PSG responded robustly and secured victory with goals from Ousmane Dembélé, who netted twice and a strike from Fabián Ruiz. This win extended PSG’s perfect start to the league season marking their third consecutive victory.

PSG has made it clear that they do not tolerate racism, antisemitism, or any form of discrimination. The club issued a statement declaring their unwavering support for Mendes and all affected by such abuse. They are collaborating with relevant authorities and organizations to hold those responsible accountable and ensure justice. The club emphasized its dedication to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment both on and off the pitch.

PSG reaffirmed its commitment to the values of tolerance and respect which are integral to the club’s identity. Nuno Mendes, who has made 80 appearances for PSG originally joined the team on loan from Sporting Lisbon in August 2021 before signing a permanent contract in May 2022.
