Marc Guiu Dominates as Chelsea Secure Perfect Record
Marc Guiu the 18-year-old Chelsea forward was the standout performer in their 5-1 victory over Shamrock Rovers in the Conference League scoring a first-half hat-trick. His goals helped Chelsea top their group, maintaining a perfect record in the competition. Guiu capitalized on defensive errors to score his first two goals before completing his hat-trick with a header from Noni Madueke’s cross in stoppage time. His six goals in the group stage make him the top scorer of the league phase.
The Spanish youth international joined Chelsea from Barcelona in the summer, activating a £5m release clause in his contract. Guiu had a promising start at Barcelona scoring minutes after debuting in La Liga but his progress was hampered by growth issues causing him to miss several games. Despite these challenges, Barcelona recognized his potential but Chelsea seized the opportunity to sign him after Barcelona attempted to extend his contract.
Former Chelsea player Joe Cole compared Guiu’s goal-scoring instincts to that of Luis Suarez, noting his natural ability in front of goal. His work ethic has also earned praise from teammates like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who highlighted his relentless pressing. Although Guiu has featured prominently in Chelsea’s Conference League matches, he has had limited opportunities in the Premier League.
He has yet to start a league match with competition from Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku delaying his first-team breakthrough. However, manager Enzo Maresca hinted that Marc Guiu’s time in the Premier League will come with the young forward’s hard work likely to earn him more chances in the near future.
