Marc Skinner Hails Manchester United's Return to Form
Marc Skinner praised Manchester United’s performance as they ended a four-match winless run by beating Leicester 2-0 in the Women’s Super League (WSL). The victory, featuring goals from Elisabeth Terland and Celin Bizet marked a return to form after three successive draws. Skinner emphasized that United “looked much more like ourselves,” showing greater aggression both with and without the ball. He was particularly pleased with the team’s clean sheet and the attacking spark provided by Brazilian winger Geyse, who assisted Terland’s first-half goal.
Leicester, who defended well, struggled to break down United’s attack. Terland’s header just before halftime put United in the lead and Bizet capitalized on a mistake from Leicester defender CJ Bott to score her first goal for United, sealing the win. Despite the dominant performance, United missed key midfielder Ella Toone due to injury. The victory moved United six points behind WSL leaders Chelsea, whom they will face next Sunday in a top-of-the-table clash.
Marc Skinner noted that despite a slow start to the season, United had returned to their attacking style, registering 23 shots and six on target—a significant improvement from their disappointing 0-0 draw against Aston Villa the previous week. On the other hand, Leicester continued to struggle with goal-scoring.
Forward Hannah Cain’s glaring miss in the 38th minute highlighted their difficulties in front of goal. With only two goals in eight games, Leicester remain at the bottom of the table, tied on points with Crystal Palace. Manager Amandine Miquel remains hopeful emphasizing that despite the tough results, the team possesses quality and potential for improvement.
