Mike Vrabel is the new head coach of the New England Patriots replacing Jerod Mayo, whom the team dismissed after just one season in charge. Vrabel, a former linebacker for the Patriots, played for the team from 2001 to 2008 and won three Super Bowl titles during his tenure. Vrabel’s coaching career includes a six-season stint as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans where he earned significant recognition for his leadership.

In 2021, the NFL named him Coach of the Year and during his time with the Titans, he gained respect for leading the team to playoff contention and strong performances. However, the Titans fired Vrabel a year ago. Before rejoining the Patriots, Vrabel worked as a coaching and personnel consultant for the Cleveland Browns during the 2024 season until his contract ended on December 30. His return to New England marks a full-circle moment as he now becomes the 16th head coach in franchise history.

The Patriots celebrated Vrabel’s return, emphasizing his achievements both as a player and a coach. “He’s back! Patriots Hall of Famer Mike Vrabel returns to New England as our 16th head coach,” the team stated in their announcement. The move comes as the Patriots look to rebuild and return to championship contention under Vrabel’s leadership as he is familiar with the organization’s culture and expectations.

Vrabel’s appointment brings a sense of continuity and experience to the Patriots as the team strives to make strides after a challenging period. His previous success in the NFL positions him as a key figure in the Patriots’ efforts to restore their competitiveness in the league.
