Morgan Rogers Joins England Squad for Nations League Matches
Morgan Rogers, the Aston Villa midfielder has joined the England senior squad for November’s Nations League matches after injuries sidelined eight players. The 22-year-old, who has impressed with three goals and two assists in 11 appearances for Villa this season, now steps in to replace the injured players and receives his first call-up to the senior team.
Meanwhile, interim manager Lee Carsley has also added West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, Newcastle’s Tino Livramento and Burnley’s James Trafford to the squad, responding to the wave of injuries that removed several regulars from contention.
Chelsea’s Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer, Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale will all miss out.
Alexander-Arnold sustained an injury in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Villa while Saka and Rice suffered knocks in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea. Grealish, who hasn’t played since October 20, initially made the squad but later withdrew as did Ramsdale, who reportedly faces a suspected fractured finger.
However, the reasons for the absences of Foden, Palmer and Colwill remain unclear. England will take on Greece on November 14 and the Republic of Ireland on November 17 in their final Nations League fixtures for 2024. This lineup marks Carsley’s last before Thomas Tuchel assumes the role of permanent manager in January 2025.
