New York Jets have acquired wide receiver Davante Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, reuniting him with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Adams, 31, previously spent eight successful seasons alongside Rodgers at the Green Bay Packers where he established himself as one of the NFL’s top receivers. The Jets had high hopes for a Super Bowl run this season with four-time MVP Rodgers, 40, at the helm.
However, after a disappointing 23-20 loss to divisional rivals the Buffalo Bills, the Jets now sit at 2-4, having lost three consecutive games. This loss came after the team parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh leaving them third in the AFC East behind the Miami Dolphins (2-3) and the Bills (4-2). The New York Jets remain optimistic that Adams can revive his successful partnership with Rodgers.
Together, they recorded 622 receptions and 69 touchdowns during their time with the Packers. In return for Adams, the Raiders will reportedly receive a conditional third-round draft pick which could escalate to a second-round pick based on Adams’ performance in New York. Additionally, the Jets will take on the remainder of Adams’ contract which is a five-year, $140 million deal signed in 2022.
Adams had a career-best season in 2020 with Rodgers amassing 1,374 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. Since the Raiders traded him in March 2022, he has recorded 18 receptions for 209 yards and one touchdown this season but has missed the last few games due to a hamstring injury. In related news, the Buffalo Bills traded for veteran wideout Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns.
Buffalo will give up a third-round draft pick in 2025 and a seventh-rounder in 2026 to acquire the six-time Pro Bowler, who will help fill the void left by Stefon Diggs’ departure to the Houston Texans.
