Plymouth Argyle Earns Dramatic Draw Against Bristol City
Plymouth Argyle responded well to Wayne Rooney’s sudden departure, battling back twice to secure a 2-2 draw against Bristol City at Home Park. Despite Anis Mehmeti and Jason Knight putting Bristol City ahead twice, the visitors couldn’t hold onto their advantage. The match started slowly due to the uncertainty surrounding Plymouth’s management. However, in the 32nd minute, Max Bird played a well-placed pass that sent Nahki Wells through on goal. Wells assisted Mehmeti, who calmly slotted home for his ninth of the season.
Plymouth, struggling in the first half, equalized early in the second half. Rami Al Hajj capitalized on a cross from Morgan Whittaker and finished with a composed low shot. City responded quickly and Knight restored their lead with a clever chip over Plymouth’s keeper, Conor Hazard. With time running out, Plymouth secured a dramatic equalizer in stoppage time. Adam Randell delivered a free-kick that City poorly defended and Julio Pleguezuelo acrobatically hooked the ball into the net, earning Plymouth a hard-fought point.
Despite the disappointment of dropping points, Bristol City boss Liam Manning praised his team’s positive response especially after Wells missed a chance early in the second half. Plymouth’s caretaker management team of Kevin Nancekivell and Joe Edwards expressed satisfaction with their players’ resilience and Nancekivell praised Pleguezuelo’s determination. The draw leaves Plymouth five points from safety. They will travel to Stoke City next while Bristol City prepares for home games against Derby County and Premier League Wolves.
