Portsmouth secured a crucial 4-0 victory over Swansea City to climb out of the Championship’s relegation zone. They built the win on a solid first-half performance, starting with Josh Murphy’s 22nd-minute goal after Zak Swanson delivered a precise cross. Just seven minutes later, Paddy Lane capitalized on indecision in the Swansea defense to double Portsmouth’s lead. Swansea threatened a comeback early in the second half with Josh Tymon hitting the crossbar but Ryley Towler’s header helped Portsmouth regain control.

Further misery followed for Swansea when a defensive mistake allowed Colby Bishop to seal the win after Cyrus Christie misjudged a clearance. Portsmouth’s recent home form has been impressive as they collected 13 points from their last five matches, scoring 14 goals. They dominated Swansea with their high press, limiting Swansea’s possession and forcing errors in defense.

Despite Swansea’s best efforts including Eom Ji-Sung’s shot saved by goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid and Tymon’s near miss, Swansea couldn’t break down Portsmouth’s defense. The victory lifted Portsmouth out of the bottom three, putting them one point above the relegation zone in 21st place. Meanwhile, Swansea slipped to 12th and remained frustrated after failing to capitalize on their possession.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho praised his team for their excellent pressing game while Swansea’s Luke Williams admitted his team struggled to cope with both the weather and Portsmouth’s tactics. Despite a strong recent run, Swansea’s inconsistency cost them dearly in this heavy defeat. Portsmouth’s win has revitalized their bid for Championship survival and they’ll aim to continue their good form in upcoming fixtures.
