Real Madrid, the champions of La Liga, played to a goalless draw against Real Betis in a match that marked the retirement of midfielder Toni Kroos at the Santiago Bernabeu. Before the game, both teams honored the German international, who will retire from professional football after Euro 2024, with a guard of honor. In the 86th minute, Kroos was substituted, and the entire stadium rose to applaud him. Throughout his ten-year tenure with Los Blancos, Kroos has amassed an impressive collection of 22 trophies.

During the first half, Betis believed they had taken the lead when Johnny Cardoso scored from close range after Juan Miranda’s free-kick. However, the referee disallowed the goal, deeming Marc Roca to be offside in the build-up. In the second half, Willian Jose managed to poke the ball into the net from a near-post finish, but once again, the linesman raised the flag for offside.

Both Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo had missed opportunities for Real Madrid as the match ended in a draw, with both teams settling for a point in their final league encounter of the season. With the league campaign concluded, the focus now shifts to the Champions League final, which will take place next Saturday at Wembley. Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund as they aim to secure their 15th European title.
