Rebecca Knaak Joins Manchester City on 18-Month Deal
Rebecca Knaak has strengthened Manchester City’s squad by signing a one-and-a-half-year deal from Swedish champions FC Rosengard. The 28-year-old is City’s first signing of the January transfer window and provides much-needed depth to Gareth Taylor’s squad which currently lacks several key players due to injury. Knaak brings significant experience to the team. She represented Germany at youth level and spent three successful years with FC Rosengard.
During her time in Sweden, she won the league and cup double in her debut season and secured another league title last year. Expressing her excitement about the move, Rebecca Knaak said, “It feels exciting to be here. I think the WSL is the best league in the world right now. When I heard about the interest, I didn’t have to think about it because it’s such a big opportunity.” Knaak’s decision to join Manchester City stemmed from her strong relationship with Therese Sjogran, the club’s director of football.
“I trust her and her abilities, so it gives me a good feeling. The club has the highest ambitions and this matches my own ambitions,” she added. City, currently in second place in the Women’s Super League, sit six points behind leaders Chelsea. Knaak’s arrival will help the club bolster its defensive options and push for the title in the second half of the season.
Knaak also expressed her pride at joining such a prestigious club: “I’m very proud and I feel honoured to be part of this big club. I can’t wait to get started.” Her addition will boost the squad as they continue their pursuit of success in both domestic and international competitions.
