Renato Veiga, Chelsea defender has joined Juventus on loan for the remainder of the season. The 21-year-old, who Chelsea signed from Basel for £11.8m in the summer has played in 18 games but has started only one Premier League match. Under the terms of the deal, Juventus will cover Veiga’s wages and pay a £3.8m loan fee. Juventus cannot make the transfer permanent at the end of the season. Veiga a Portuguese international expressed frustration with his limited role at Chelsea especially playing at left-back, a position he didn’t favor.

He preferred to play as a centre-back which led him to seek more playing time. Before finalizing the loan move to Juventus, Veiga had also considered a transfer to Borussia Dortmund as he sought more game time to secure a place in the Portugal national team. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca urged Veiga to stay with the club, stating that players unwilling to play in multiple positions might struggle.

Despite this, Renato Veiga decided to move to Juventus for more opportunities. Juventus are currently sitting fifth in Serie A and have secured a Champions League play-off spot. Juventus aim to use Veiga’s versatility and defensive skills to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.
