Ruben Amorim Reflects on Rashford’s Choices Amid Speculation
Ruben Amorim has raised concerns about the “choices” made by those around forward Marcus Rashford following the player’s recent comments. After Amorim dropped Rashford for the 2-1 win against Manchester City on December 15, Rashford, 27 expressed his desire for a “new challenge” in an interview. Rashford’s absence from the squad for the subsequent 4-3 loss to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup and the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth has fueled speculation about his potential departure from Old Trafford in January.
Amorim acknowledged the difficult situation and suggested that Rashford’s recent interview was influenced by people in his circle. He stated, “I understand these players have a lot of people around them, making choices that are not the first idea from the player,” implying that the interview was not entirely Rashford’s decision. Despite the interview, Amorim stressed that he remains focused on helping Rashford improve his form and emphasized that he continues to have a strong relationship with the player despite the external influences.
Rashford, who has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for United since making his debut in 2016, enjoyed a standout season in 2022-23, netting 30 goals across all competitions. However, his form has been inconsistent in recent seasons with some pundits and fans criticizing his performances. Amorim remains committed to helping Rashford find his best form, saying, “We need a talented guy like Marcus.”
As for Rashford’s future, Ruben Amorim stated that both the player and the club must handle it when the time comes. Manchester United enters Christmas in 13th place in the Premier League, their lowest position at this stage of the season since 1986. United will face Wolves on December 26 before hosting Newcastle on December 30.
