Ruud van Nistelrooy Leaves Manchester United
Ruud van Nistelrooy has left Manchester United after new manager Ruben Amorim chose not to include him in his coaching staff. The 48-year-old Dutchman joined United in July as an assistant coach on a two-year contract. He briefly took over as interim manager after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, achieving three wins and one draw in his four matches in charge. Despite Van Nistelrooy’s solid performance, Amorim, who signed a two-and-a-half-year contract this month, opted to exclude him from the coaching team.
Van Nistelrooy previously spent five years at the club as a player. United in a statement, recognized him as a “Manchester United legend” and expressed gratitude for his contributions. The club also announced the departures of coaches Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel while confirming that former midfielder Darren Fletcher would continue in his role to maintain a link between the first team and the academy.
Upon his arrival from Sporting Lisbon, Amorim received a welcome from United’s CEO Omar Barrada, who gave him a tour of the Carrington training ground. Amorim now has 13 days during the international break to prepare for his first match against Ipswich on November 24. Although Van Nistelrooy’s departure may disappoint some fans, Amorim clearly prefers to work with his own trusted coaching staff.
Even though Ruud van Nistelrooy expressed interest in continuing as an assistant, the club had already made its decision on the managerial change. His brief time as caretaker manager impressed many and while his future with United remains uncertain, his efforts remain appreciated. United plans to announce the full makeup of Amorim’s first-team coaching staff soon.
