Inter Milan Held to 2-2 Draw by Genoa in Season Opener
Inter Milan, the Serie A champions began their title defense with a 2-2 draw against Genoa, marking the first time since 2015 that a Serie A champion failed to win their opening game. Genoa took an early lead with a goal from Alessandro Vogliacco. Marcus Thuram scored twice for Inter Milan with a header and a close-range chip. Despite his efforts, the match ended in disappointment for the champions.
Genoa equalized in injury time after being awarded a penalty for a Yann Bisseck handball. Junior Messias missed the initial penalty but converted the rebound, securing the draw for Genoa. In another dramatic match, AC Milan staged a late comeback to draw 2-2 with Torino. Torino had been leading comfortably with goals from Malick Thiaw, who scored an own goal and Duvan Zapata.
However, AC Milan’s Alvaro Morata scored in the 89th minute on his debut and Noah Okafor equalized deep into stoppage time to salvage a point. Parma, back in Serie A after a three-year absence, drew 1-1 with Fiorentina. Dennis Man scored a stunning goal for Parma but Fiorentina’s captain, Cristiano Biraghi equalized with a brilliant free-kick.
In the final match of the weekend, Empoli and Monza played out a goalless draw.
