Inter Milan delivered a dominant 6-0 victory over Lazio, handing the Rome club their heaviest ever home defeat in Serie A history. Lazio, who began the match level on points with Inter and six points behind leaders Atalanta had no response to Inter’s attacking brilliance. Lazio had been on an impressive 12-match unbeaten streak at home with their last loss in front of their own fans dating back to March. Additionally, they topped their Europa League group, showing strong form across competitions.
However, their night took a downturn when Inter took the lead in the 41st minute. Hakan Calhanoglu converted a penalty after a handball decision and Federico Dimarco doubled the lead just before halftime with a volley. The second half saw Inter’s dominance continue. Nicolo Barella made it 3-0 in the 51st minute followed by Denzel Dumfries, who added another goal two minutes later. Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram completed the rout late on with Inter securing a resounding 6-0 victory.
With the win, Inter remain third in the Serie A standings with 34 points from 15 matches, three points behind Atalanta but with a game in hand. This result also marked Lazio’s worst-ever home defeat in Serie A, surpassing their previous record of a 5-0 loss to Fiorentina in 1959. Inter now hold the distinction of inflicting Lazio’s three biggest Serie A defeats with this loss joining an 8-1 defeat in 1934 and a 7-0 loss in 1961.
