Scott McTominay & Gilmour Shine in Napoli Debut with 4-0 Win

Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, the Scottish midfielders made their Serie A debuts for Napoli in a commanding 4-0 victory over Cagliari. The two players, who joined Napoli from Manchester United and Chelsea respectively, entered the game together in the 74th minute by which point Napoli had already established a comfortable 3-0 lead. The match faced a temporary halt in the first half due to a seven-minute suspension.

Cagliari fans threw objects and fireworks onto the pitch and at each other. This disruption prompted the interruption. Napoli’s dominant performance saw them secure their third consecutive win, propelling them to the top of the Serie A standings early in the season. Giovanni di Lorenzo opened the scoring with a deflected shot followed by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who extended the lead with a goal assisted by Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku then capitalized on a defensive error to score his second goal in as many games. Alessandro Buongiorno rounded off the scoring with a late header. The result highlights Napoli’s strong start to the season and underscores their commanding performance. It also marks an encouraging debut for Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour. Both midfielders contributed significantly as they adjusted to their new roles with the club.
