South Korea football fans experienced an unforgettable event as legendary players gathered at the Seoul World Cup Stadium for the Nexon Icons Match on Sunday. This unique matchup featured a team of iconic attacking players facing off against a squad of renowned defensive talents, each seeking to claim victory. The defensive team, Shield FC was managed by Fabio Cannavaro and included stars like Rio Ferdinand, Carles Puyol and Nemanja Vidic while FC Spear coached by Thierry Henry boasted attacking legends such as Kaka, Didier Drogba and Luis Figo.

The match showcased an intriguing dynamic with Shield FC lacking recognized forwards and FC Spear fielding no true defenders. Henry even took to the field as a full-back in a 4-3-3 formation. Surprisingly, Shield FC’s defense shone, quickly establishing a 2-0 lead within the first 18 minutes, thanks to goals from Yaya Toure and Clarence Seedorf. Despite the presence of 62,000 fans, FC Spear struggled to penetrate the organized Shield FC which skillfully managed the game.

A humorous moment occurred when Lee Young-pyo a former Spurs full-back showcased his skills against Michael Owen leaving the Ballon d’Or winner off-balance. As the match progressed, Shield FC extended their lead with goals from Park Joo-ho and Mascherano, bringing the score to 4-0 before South Korea icon Park Ji-sung netted a late consolation goal for FC Spear.

Post-match, players reflected on their time in South Korea. Seedorf expressed gratitude for the heartfelt welcome and cultural connection while Berbatov praised the hospitality and the chance to reconnect with former teammates. Ultimately, the event celebrated the joy of football and the bonds forged between players and fans alike.
