Spain secured a dramatic 3-2 win over Switzerland in their final Nations League Group A4 match in Tenerife. Despite the match being a dead rubber—Spain had already won the group and Switzerland was set to finish last—the game delivered late drama. Pedri playing in his hometown had a penalty saved but Yeremy Pino also from the Canary Islands, capitalized on the rebound to give Spain the lead in the 32nd minute.
Switzerland responded in the 63rd minute when Joel Monteiro equalized but Spain regained the lead just five minutes later through Bryan Gil. With five minutes remaining, Andi Zeqiri converted a penalty to level the score at 2-2, setting up an intense finish. However, in the third minute of added time, Bryan Zaragoza scored from the spot to secure Spain’s victory completing an exciting conclusion to the match.
Meanwhile, Denmark joined Spain in the Nations League quarter-finals after a goalless draw in Serbia. The hosts, who needed a win to secure second place in the group, dominated possession and took 22 shots but failed to find the net. Serbia also had Strahinja Pavlovic sent off in the fifth minute of injury time.
The draw left Serbia in third place and they will now face a relegation-promotion play-off against a League B team. As a result, Spain and Denmark advanced to the Nations League quarter-finals while Switzerland and Serbia’s campaigns ended with disappointment, despite their valiant efforts.
