The Dallas Cowboys Make Dak Prescott NFL’s Highest-Paid Player

The Dallas Cowboys have extended quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history. Prescott, 31, agreed to a four-year deal reportedly worth $240 million (£183m) with $231 million (£176m) guaranteed and an $80 million (£61m) signing bonus. This deal surpasses the $55 million annual salary set by Joe Burrow, Jordan Love and Trevor Lawrence, making Prescott the NFL’s highest-paid player at $60 million per season.

Prescott’s guaranteed money also breaks the NFL record, topping Deshaun Watson’s 2022 deal by $1 million. Prescott’s contract extension came just hours before the Dallas Cowboys opened their season with a 33-17 win over the Cleveland Browns where he threw for 179 yards and a touchdown. After the game, Prescott expressed his desire to put contract discussions behind him and focus on the team’s future success.

Following a career-high season, Prescott led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes and 410 completions while finishing second in MVP voting. He has earned three Pro Bowl selections. Despite achieving regular-season success including three consecutive 12-win seasons, Prescott has struggled in the playoffs with only two wins in seven postseason appearances and no Super Bowl berth.

Alongside Prescott’s deal, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb secured a four-year, $136 million contract. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones faced pressure to finalize these deals as the team aims to break a nearly 30-year Super Bowl drought. Now, the Cowboys count on Prescott to lead them to long-awaited postseason success.
