The Kansas City Chiefs took another step toward a historic third consecutive Super Bowl appearance with a 23-14 victory over the Houston Texans in the NFL Divisional Round. After earning a bye in the first round, the Chiefs continued their post-season dominance at home, powered by quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City is now one win away from a potential third straight Super Bowl, a feat never achieved in NFL history.

Travis Kelce played a key role in the victory, scoring a crucial touchdown early in the fourth quarter while Kareem Hunt also found the end zone to give the Chiefs a 13-6 lead at halftime. Houston struggled with missed opportunities as kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn missed two field goals and an extra-point attempt before having a potential game-tying field goal blocked late in the game.

The Chiefs were in control throughout with Mahomes connecting with Kelce for a season-long 49-yard reception to set up Hunt’s touchdown. Houston responded with a long drive in the third quarter but a missed extra point kept them trailing. Mahomes then found Kelce again for an 11-yard touchdown pass, sealing the Chiefs’ victory. Harrison Butker added another field goal to extend the lead and the Chiefs’ defense held strong to ensure the win.

Kelce’s impressive performance with 117 receiving yards, moved him closer to Jerry Rice’s all-time record for postseason touchdown catches. The Kansas City Chiefs will face either the Baltimore Ravens or Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game next week, aiming to make it to their third straight Super Bowl. Taylor Swift and WNBA star Caitlin Clark were in attendance to support Kelce at Arrowhead Stadium.
