Tyreek Hill Handcuffed in Miami Traffic Stop

Tyreek Hill the NFL star was pulled from his vehicle and handcuffed during a traffic stop as shown in bodycam footage released by Miami police. Hill was stopped while heading to Hard Rock Stadium for the season opener. The incident also involved two of Hill’s Miami Dolphins teammates, Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith. According to Miami-Dade police, one officer involved in the stop is now on administrative duties pending an investigation.

The Miami Dolphins issued a statement expressing concern over what they described as “overly aggressive and violent conduct” towards Hill and his teammates and called for disciplinary action against the officers. In contrast, the local police union defended the officers’ actions, stating they followed proper procedures. The bodycam footage begins when officers stop Hill’s car and approach him.

The officer initially questions Tyreek Hill about not wearing a seatbelt. Hill frustrated, demands a ticket and attempts to roll up his window. The officer then orders Hill out of the car and when Hill refuses, officers forcibly remove him and handcuff him. Hill complains about being treated roughly and mentions recent knee surgery. Campbell and Smith, who tried to intervene were also handcuffed.

Despite the incident, Hill made it to the Dolphins’ game, scoring a touchdown in their 20-17 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Post-game, Hill expressed confusion about the stop, stating he had followed his uncle’s advice to remain calm and compliant. Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels confirmed an internal investigation and administrative action for one officer.

The local police union described Hill as “uncooperative” and said he was driving dangerously but was not formally arrested. Hill’s attorney, Julius Collins disputed the police union’s account noting the video’s discrepancies. Hill received citations for careless driving and not wearing a seatbelt.
