Vitor Pereira the former Porto boss has been appointed as Wolves’ new head coach. He will serve on an 18-month contract. The Portuguese coach joins from Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab with Wolves paying around £825,000 in compensation. Pereira replaces Gary O’Neil, who Wolves dismissed after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Ipswich left them second-bottom in the Premier League. Pereira took charge of training for the first time on Thursday. He will lead the team in Sunday’s crucial match against Leicester, who sit 17th, five points ahead of Wolves.

The club had been evaluating coaching options for weeks and considered candidates such as former West Ham manager David Moyes. However, Pereira emerged as the top choice due to his impressive track record. He won two Primeira Liga titles with Porto in 2012 and 2013 and a Greek Super League title with Olympiakos in 2015. Pereira had been managing Al-Shabab since February leaving them in sixth place in the Saudi Pro League.

Wolves have struggled this season, winning only twice and suffering 11 defeats in 16 matches putting their seven-year stay in the Premier League in jeopardy. Therefore, Pereira’s appointment comes at a critical time as the club aims for a turnaround. Wolves chairman Jeff Shi expressed full confidence in Pereira’s ability to guide the team back on track. He highlighted Pereira’s success across various leagues and his fresh approach to the challenges ahead.

Vitor Pereira’s experience and leadership will be crucial in helping Wolves recover and maintain their Premier League status. The club is united in supporting him as they look to avoid relegation and improve their performance in the second half of the season.
