Washington Commanders Breaks 19-Year Playoff Drought with Win
Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills secured victories in the NFL play-offs on Sunday with thrilling games setting up exciting matchups in the next round. Firstly, Washington ended a 19-year wait for a play-off win, defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-20. Despite a back-and-forth game with both quarterbacks throwing two touchdown passes, the Commanders emerged victorious thanks to a field goal by Zane Gonzalez as time expired.
Rookie QB Jayden Daniels played a pivotal role in Washington’s offense and a crucial fumble recovery helped them claim the lead for good. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills dominated the Denver Broncos 31-7. Despite an early shock touchdown by rookie QB Bo Nix, Buffalo’s Josh Allen threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns while James Cook rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown. The Bills’ offense overpowered Denver in the second half and their defense held firm to secure the win.
Buffalo will host the Baltimore Ravens next week where Allen will face his MVP rival Lamar Jackson in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. In another exciting match, the Philadelphia Eagles won 22-10 against the Green Bay Packers in a tough battle. Despite early errors, including a fumbled kickoff, the Eagles capitalized on mistakes from the Packers, who were plagued by injuries, penalties and turnovers.
Jalen Hurts threw a touchdown and Saquon Barkley rushed for 119 yards, but the Packers couldn’t recover from three interceptions thrown by Jordan Love. The Eagles advance but they will need to improve offensively to face tougher competition in the Divisional Round. Finally, the Wildcard Weekend concludes on Monday with the Los Angeles Rams facing the Minnesota Vikings for the final spot in the Divisional Round.
