Adrian Newey Signs with Aston Martin

Adrian Newey the mastermind behind some of Formula 1’s most successful designs has joined Aston Martin. Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin’s owner believes this move will elevate the team’s performance. At 65, Newey has secured 13 drivers’ championships and 12 constructors’ titles with teams like Williams, McLaren and Red Bull. Stroll calls Newey’s acquisition a “bargain,” considering the £30m investment.

Stroll has heavily invested in a state-of-the-art factory and wind tunnel at Aston Martin’s base near Silverstone and sees Newey as a crucial addition to the team’s transformation. Newey has expressed excitement about joining Aston Martin, praised their new facilities and described the project as a return to the traditional team owner model which he finds motivating.

Newey’s presence will significantly impact Aston Martin’s performance following his departure from Red Bull. Since Newey left, Red Bull has faced challenges indicating his role was vital to their previous success. Newey will start full-time at Aston Martin in March just as the new aerodynamics rules for 2026 are set to be released. As managing technical partner, Newey will collaborate closely with technical director Dan Fallows a former Red Bull colleague.

Fernando Alonso, who has eagerly awaited the chance to work with Newey after years of rivalry is also excited about the change.
