George Russell led a dominant British front row in qualifying for the British Grand Prix, securing pole position ahead of Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren’s Lando Norris. George Russell claimed pole position for the British Grand Prix, edging out Lewis Hamilton by 0.171 seconds. Lando Norris, despite aborting his second lap, finished 0.211 seconds behind, securing the third spot on the starting grid. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen struggled to fourth place, hampered by a damaged car from a gravel trap incident in the wet first session.
Three British drivers secured the top spots on the grid for their home grand prix, a historic moment since 1962. It’s an incredible feat for British motorsport. Despite the chilly 14°C weather, Russell, Hamilton and Norris displayed consistent speed throughout the weekend as conditions dried. The results also highlighted Mercedes’ resurgence following recent car upgrades, continuing their competitive form.
Russell, reflecting on his pole position, expressed immense satisfaction: “What a feeling. At the start of this year, I don’t think we could even have dreamt of being on pole there. On pole with Lewis and Lando top three, it’s just mega.” Hamilton praised the achievement of three Brits in the top three and credited Russell’s performance while acknowledging the team’s unexpected front-row presence.
Despite a mistake that hindered his final lap, Norris found solace in his third-place finish amidst the dominant British contingent. He acknowledged his error but remained pleased with his overall performance. Looking ahead, the focus shifts to whether Verstappen can mount a challenge from the second row, as Red Bull struggled with car issues and Sergio Perez faced a challenging qualifying session, starting from 18th.
Ferrari encountered difficulties, with Leclerc qualifying 11th and Sainz seventh while Aston Martin’s Alonso and Stroll escaped penalties. The British Grand Prix promises excitement as Russell eyes his first win, Hamilton capitalizes on home advantage.
