Lando Norris’ Abu Dhabi Victory Caps McLaren’s F1 Comeback

Lando Norris’ victory in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix secured McLaren’s first Constructors’ Championship in 26 years, capping a remarkable season. This triumph, his fourth win of the year validated his long-standing confidence in the team’s return to the top. McLaren, Formula 1’s second-oldest team, had endured a quarter-century without a championship. Norris’ win was crucial especially after his teammate Oscar Piastri was sidelined by a first-corner collision.

With Ferrari closing in, Norris held firm securing the win amidst tense moments. Team principal Andrea Stella praised the team’s resilience and belief, key factors in McLaren’s revival. The last decade has been challenging for McLaren marked by management changes and near-bankruptcy. However, the team began its recovery under CEO Zak Brown, who spearheaded crucial investments and Stella, who took over as team principal in late 2022.

Under Stella’s leadership, McLaren progressed from near the back of the grid to being a formidable challenger to Red Bull. This transformation is a testament to the hard work of the entire McLaren team with over 1,000 people playing a role in their success. Stella acknowledged the contributions of his late advisor Gil de Ferran, dedicating McLaren’s Miami victory to him.

While McLaren started the 2024 season slowly by mid-year, they had the fastest car leading to a strong finish. Lando Norris, now ready to challenge for the championship believes next year will be his year to fight for the title. Reflecting on the season, he feels more confident in himself, knowing what areas to improve. The future looks bright for Norris and McLaren as they prepare to take on Red Bull next season.
