Lewis Hamilton expressed his contentment with ending his 12-year partnership with Mercedes “on a high” following what he described as a “really turbulent year.” The seven-time world champion secured a fourth-place finish in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, starting from 16th on the grid, marking a fitting conclusion to his long tenure with the team. Reflecting on the year, Hamilton said it felt like being in a relationship where he had already decided to leave but had to continue living together for another year.

Despite the challenges, he found satisfaction in his final race with Mercedes. “It’s been a really tough year, but we finished on a high today,” Hamilton said. “Representing Mercedes has been the greatest moment of my life.” Hamilton, who will join Ferrari in 2025 leaves behind a legacy as one of F1’s most successful team-driver partnerships. He clinched two victories in 2024, his first wins since 2021, though he also endured difficult weekends such as a 12th-place finish in Qatar.

Despite the ups and downs, Hamilton emphasized the love and support he received from Mercedes, particularly from the board members. Teammate George Russell, who finished 22 points ahead of Hamilton in the drivers’ championship expressed pride in sharing these final years with him. “I’ve learned so much from Lewis as a driver and a person,” Russell said. He also acknowledged Hamilton’s role as a positive influence and role model, emphasizing the importance of how victories and defeats are handled in the public eye.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff summed up Lewis Hamilton’s time with the team, noting the deep attachment and trust built over 12 years, values that will remain cherished.
