Lewis Hamilton described his first test in a Ferrari Formula 1 car as “awe-inspiring” and “one of the best feelings of my life.” The seven-time world champion completed 30 laps in a 2023 Ferrari F1 car at the Fiorano test track in cold, damp conditions. Hamilton recalled the excitement of starting the car and driving through the garage, comparing the moment to his first F1 test nearly 20 years ago.

Furthermore, Hamilton praised the Ferrari team’s passion, stating that experiencing it firsthand as a Ferrari driver energized him. He expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the Maranello team and eagerly anticipated working with them. Ferrari’s team principal, Frederic Vasseur, described the test as an emotional moment, particularly since it marked Hamilton’s first day with the team. After Hamilton’s run, Charles Leclerc took over the car for 14 laps in the afternoon.

In addition, Hamilton’s test helps him acclimate to Ferrari, following two days of work at the team’s Maranello factory. He will also test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in the coming weeks and drive the 2025 Ferrari model at its launch on February 19. Under F1’s regulations, Hamilton can test only 1,000km with previous cars. This process helps him familiarize himself with Ferrari’s engine and build a working relationship with his new race engineer, Riccardo Adami.

Meanwhile, fans gathered outside Fiorano to catch a glimpse of Lewis Hamilton and he waved to the crowd after the session. His mother, Carmen, captured the moment. Looking ahead, Hamilton will make his first public appearance as a Ferrari driver on February 18 at the F1 season launch in London. Pre-season testing will begin in Bahrain on February 26 with the season starting at the Australian Grand Prix on March 14-16.
