Lewis Hamilton has vowed to “give it absolutely everything” for his final three races with Mercedes, despite considering walking away after a tough Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion finished 10th in the main race and 11th in the sprint at Interlagos three weeks ago, calling it “a disaster of a weekend.” After the race, he expressed frustration on team radio, reflecting that if it were his last performance, he would feel “a shame it wasn’t great but [I am] grateful for you.”
The 39-year-old Briton will join Ferrari next season after spending 12 years with Mercedes, during which he won six of his seven drivers’ titles. Reflecting on his Sao Paulo radio message, Hamilton admitted that in the heat of the moment, he didn’t want to continue after that difficult weekend but acknowledged that his reaction was natural.
Despite struggling in 2022 and 2023 when Mercedes faced difficulties with the new regulations, Hamilton experienced a brief resurgence this season winning the British and Belgian Grands Prix. However, his troubles returned with a series of accidents alongside teammate George Russell at the US Grand Prix followed by dissatisfaction with his car’s handling in Brazil.
Looking ahead to his final races with Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton emphasized that while he was disappointed in the moment, he now focuses on giving his best. “I’m here, I’m standing strong,” he said, adding that he will deliver the best results he can for the team in his final races. Despite the frustrations, Hamilton expressed his continued love for the team and hoped for a better car setup to end his Mercedes career on a high note.
