Monaco Grand Prix Extended to 2031 with New Deal

Monaco will continue to host Formula 1 races until at least 2031, following the signing of a new six-year deal. The Monaco Grand Prix, one of the sport’s most iconic and prestigious events has taken place annually since 1955 except for the Covid-affected 2020 season. While the race faced pressure to modernize in recent years, particularly regarding television broadcast and on-track advertising, organizers complied with F1’s demands securing the race’s spot on the calendar.

Despite ongoing concerns about Monaco’s narrow streets and the difficulty of overtaking on the circuit, F1 will not alter the layout due to the challenges of modifying the iconic street course. However, from 2026 the race will shift to the first full weekend in June, a change F1 has not fully explained. This move may relate to discussions about moving the Canadian Grand Prix to May to align with the Miami Grand Prix for sustainability reasons, although this remains unconfirmed.

F1 president Stefano Domenicali expressed excitement about Monaco’s continued presence on the calendar, praising the unique streets of Monte Carlo and the race’s prestige. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who won the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix becoming the first Monegasque driver to do so since 1931 had previously stated that removing Monaco from the calendar would be a “bad move.”

While Monaco’s hosting fee is relatively small and crowds are limited by space, the race continues to attract spectators and television viewers worldwide. The Automobile Club of Monaco president, Michel Boeri reaffirmed the event’s importance, emphasizing their commitment to providing a world-class experience for all visitors.
