Monza Secures Place on Formula 1 Calendar Until 2031

The iconic Italian Grand Prix at Monza will remain a key fixture on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2031. The historic track, the oldest in the championship, has extended its deal with F1 by six years, following significant modernization efforts.

Monza holds the distinction of being the oldest circuit on the Formula 1 calendar

These upgrades, completed in time for this year’s Italian GP, were essential to meet F1’s modern standards. Funded by the Italian and Lombardy regional governments, the improvements included resurfacing the track, upgrading underpasses for enhanced safety, and modernizing facilities for fans.

F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali praised Monza’s enduring legacy, stating:
“Monza is at the very heart of Formula 1 history. The unique atmosphere created by the tifosi cheering on Ferrari and the drivers is unmatched. The recent infrastructure upgrades and planned investments demonstrate a strong commitment to F1’s long-term future in Italy.”

Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Automobile Club d’Italia, highlighted Monza’s historical significance, noting:
“Monza is the oldest racetrack in the world hosting a World Championship race and the longest-running event on the calendar. However, history alone isn’t enough.”

Sticchi Damiani also outlined future plans for 2025, emphasizing the need to improve hospitality to meet modern Formula 1 standards.

Monza first hosted the Italian Grand Prix in 1922 and has been a staple of the F1 calendar since the World Championship began in 1950, except for 1980, when renovations temporarily shifted the race to Imola.

The recent upgrades and long-term investment underline Monza’s commitment to maintaining its place in Formula 1, ensuring it remains a beloved venue for fans and drivers alike for years to come.
