Sergio Perez to Stay at Red Bull for Rest of Season

Sergio Perez will retain his seat at Red Bull Racing for the remainder of the season, according to the team’s announcement. This decision follows a meeting of Red Bull’s executives on Monday to evaluate Perez’s future amid a series of underwhelming performances. Team principal Christian Horner reassured employees at the team’s base in Milton Keynes that Perez would continue with the team, as confirmed by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf and BBC Sport.

Horner emphasized that despite recent speculation, Perez remains a Red Bull Racing driver and expressed optimism about his performance on circuits where he has previously excelled. Additionally, there will be no changes to the driver line-up at Red Bull’s second team, RB where Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda will continue. The season will resume with the Dutch Grand Prix from August 23-25.

Perez’s recent form has been disappointing. Despite starting from second position at the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday, he ended the race in seventh place. Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko characterized this performance as a “complete collapse.” Since the fourth race of the season in China where he last stood on the podium, Perez’s results have been inconsistent with several finishes outside the top six.

Red Bull’s poor results have put them under pressure in the constructors’ championship with McLaren closing the gap to just 42 points. Max Verstappen leads the drivers’ championship with a 78-point advantage but has not won a race since the Spanish Grand Prix in June. Despite recent poor performance, Sergio Perez signed a new contract two months ago extending his stay at Red Bull until the end of 2026.

Frustrated by ongoing speculation about his future, Perez has declared he will no longer discuss his contract status or answer related questions.
